Former Democratic Party chairman and lawmaker Wu Chi-wai was remanded in custody on Friday, with a court revoking his bail over a protest-related case.

Wu and seven other pro-democracy activists were granted bail last month after they were charged with inciting people to join unauthorised protests on July 1 last year.

They were ordered not to leave Hong Kong and to surrender all their travel documents.

But the authorities later learnt that Wu was still in possession of a BN(O) passport.

This came to light on Wednesday, when the former legislator was arrested under the national security law along with dozens of other pro-democracy figures.

At a hearing at West Kowloon Court, the magistrate revoked Wu's bail and remanded him in custody.

Wu is next due up in court on February 5, however he will be able to apply for a review of the bail decision in eight days' time.

His legal team said they would consider applying for the review, as well as an appeal at the High Court.

Just like the 54 others arrested this week on suspicion of subversion, Wu was not charged.
