Transport minister Lam Sai-hung on Wednesday said Japan will further relax restrictions on flights from Hong Kong, allowing them to land in all airports in the country from Sunday.
Tokyo last week limited flights from Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland to four airports in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Within days, Japanese officials announced that flights from the SAR would also be allowed to land in Sapporo, Fukuoka and Okinawa, as long as none of their passengers had been on the mainland within seven days of departure.
Writing on his Facebook page, Lam said officials had a video conference with their Japanese counterparts on Wednesday and were notified of the further easing of the rules.
He said airlines can now add more flights to Japan.
The transport secretary said the SAR government will continue to follow up with authorities in Japan, and expressed hope that Tokyo would scrap the remaining restrictions on Hong Kong flights.
