The government has confirmed that executive councillor Fanny Law will step down from her chairwoman post at the Hong Kong Science Park at the end of June.

It says Law's term ends on June 30 and Sunny Chai, who it refers to a "seasoned industrialist with rich experience in public service", will succeed her for a two-year term.

The confirmation follows rumours that Chief Executive Carrie Lam has forced Law out of the position she has held for four years.

But in a statement, the CE said she's "deeply grateful to Mrs Law for her tremendous contribution to the work of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and the development of Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem".

The administration also announced the appointment of eight new members to the corporation's board of directors, with three serving members reappointed.
