Customs officials handed out flyers at the Lunar New Year fair in Victoria Park on Wednesday to warn vendors not to risk selling counterfeit goods.
Dozens of officers went around on the opening day of the city’s largest fair, to warn people that they can face a prison term of up to four years for copyright infringement.
Peggy Tam, Divisional Commander of Intellectual Property General Investigation, said around 30 to 40 officers will be on patrol across the city in the run-up to Chinese New Year.
“If we find any infringing goods being sold… we will contact the relevant trademark owner, or copyright owner, to ascertain whether it is genuine or not. If it is not genuine, we will take action accordingly“, Tam warned.
