Gerald Ho talks to RTHK's Janice Wong

A master's degree student who was expelled from Hong Kong Polytechnic University on Friday for unruly behaviour says he is looking to file for a judicial review over his punishment.

Gerald Ho was one of four students punished over a clash with university officials over the covering up of a student bulletin board, known as the “democracy wall”, where posters had been put up calling for Hong Kong's independence.

Ho said he has to try to obtain a judicial review, even though it may be a time consuming process, as there is no appeal mechanism in place regarding the university’s student discipline committee.

"Because I want justice. I don't want this incident to be repeated in future," Ho said. "This is unfair to students. We should have the right to do these things."

Ho told RTHK's Janice Wong that he has no regret about his protests as he feels that he was protesting the core values of the university.

Other than Ho, former student union leader Lam Wing-hang was given a one-year suspension from university, while two others – Owen Li and Hazel Cheng – were ordered to do community service over the confrontation with the authorities in October last year.
