A group of former Democratic Party members announced on Thursday that they have formed a new alliance and are gearing up for November's District Council elections.

The new group – the Community Alliance – consists of more than 60 former Democratic Party members and another 20 pro-democracy advocates.

The former Democratic Party members decided to form the new group after they had a row with the party leadership over the upcoming polls.

They are now planning to field about 30 candidates in the elections in November.

The convenor of the alliance, Ricky Or, said he believes candidates from his group will not clash with other pro-democracy hopefuls at the polls due to co-ordination within the pro-democracy camp.

He said he hopes the pro-democracy camp will ultimately gain control of all 18 district councils.

Asked if the group will take part in next year's Legislative Council elections, Or only said that they will consider fighting "every inch of the land".
