Education Secretary Kevin Yeung said on Sunday that he believes parents will submit accurate Covid-19 test results for their children, when in-person schooling gradually resumes in the coming week.
Pupils and teachers are required to do rapid tests every day as they initially return to school for half-day face-to-face teaching for the first time since the start of the year.
Yeung said parents have always had to submit results of their children's daily temperature checks, so he believes most of them will continue to be honest about Covid tests.
He said parents will be aware of the message they're sending their children if they don't tell the truth.
The minister also said the announcement of the daily testing requirement hadn't caused a surge in prices for test kits in the market, and he thinks parents can cope with the extra purchases.
Speaking on a TV programme, he was again defending the government's decision to provide free kits only to needy families rather than to pupils across Hong Kong.
