  • DSE exams to be offered on the mainland

Exams authorities say they plan to allow qualified mainland schools to hold Hong Kong university entrance exams from 2024.

In a circular to schools on Wednesday, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) said it has changed some regulations governing DSE exams to allow this to happen, after receiving applications from schools on the mainland to take part.

The authority said mainland schools would first have to receive approval from the authorities there to offer the DSE curriculum and be approved to teach Hong Kong students living across the border.

Some subjects, including psychology, sports and French won't be available on the mainland, however, and mainland candidates would also have to come to Hong Kong for the practical examinations for physical education, music and the English Language speaking assessment.

As for school-based assessment, the HKEAA said there will be relevant teacher training for mainland schools.

It added that the logistics arrangements and invigilation requirements for the DSE examinations on the mainland "would follow those of Hong Kong as far as practicable."
