  • Doctors want second vote on foreign doctors plans

The president of the Medical Association, Ho Chung-ping, says they are looking at ways to repackage their proposal aimed at attracting more overseas doctors, so the Medical Council can vote on it again.

On Wednesday, the council surprisingly rejected four suggestions that would ease the internship requirements for overseas-trained doctors, after they pass a licensing exam here.

Under its house rules, the council must wait six months before it can put forward the same items for a second vote.

“We are very happy to repackage our proposal to make it again, or reduce the differences, so it can be brought back again for discussion again, so it can be implemented,” Ho said.

“A delay for six months is actually not good for us, or not good for the public.”

Another member of the Medical Council, Alex Lam from Patients' Voices, said voting arrangements needs to be changed, so this situation does not happen again.
