Around 100 pro-democracy district councillors have issued a joint statement condemning the chairmen of their councils for supporting the government's move to fast track its extradition bill in Legco.

The leaders of the 18 district councils had issued a statement on Monday backing the decision to take the bill directly to the full Legislative Council.

The statement said the public generally believed that the bills committee could no longer vet the legislation effectively and being as it is so important and has a far-reaching impact, they wanted it to be handled as quickly as possible.

But pro-democracy councillors say the leaders didn't consult them beforehand, and the issue wasn't even discussed at the district councils.

Eastern District councillor Andrew Chiu, who is also the convenor of Power for Democracy, said the chairmen should have consulted the councillors according to the procedures, or convened a meeting to discuss the matter.
