Officials from the Centre for Health Protection said on Wednesday that they expect Hong Kong's daily coronavirus figure to top the 2,000-mark soon as the city added the another 1,323 local cases.
There were also 124 imported infections.
Nearly 600 of the latest local cases were identified in laboratories, while the rest were rapid tests confirmed by the authorities.
Officials also reported the death of one more Covid patient, a 64-year-old woman who was suffering from lung cancer.
"We are seeing a slow increase, a gradual increase in the number of cases recently and there have been no signs of decreasing in the past few days," said Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection.
"We expect the cases will be going up and may exceed 2,000 in the near future."
But Chuang also pointed out that other pandemic barometers, such as hospital admission, as well as severe cases and deaths, have been stable.
Officials also said there were 190 new cases reported by more than 160 schools.
A class at Christian and Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Primary School in Ping Shek has been suspended for a week after three pupils came down with the virus.
