  • DAB sets up NPC, CPPCC office

The DAB on Sunday announced it has set up its own National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) office, to collect opinions from Hongkongers and serve as a communications bridge between the SAR and Beijing.

The party, which has seven NPC delegates and nine CPPCC members, said it hopes the office will provide a channel for passing on people's views and queries on mainland-related issues.

At a media briefing, DAB chairwoman Starry Lee said she hopes to take different ideas to the country's "two sessions" – the annual plenary meetings of the NPC and CPPCC.

"There is different feedback from the general public. Basically, I would say property-related, and some are related to the immigration policies, and previously quarantine measures was also one of the very common questions put forward by the general residents," she said.

"We will collect them [questions] and try to answer them as much as we can. And we, of course, will take it as one of the very important references when we make recommendations to the central government during the two sessions."

Lee said people can seek help from the office via a hotline and website, or by email.

She added that an advisory group will be set up to handle enquiries about mainland law. The group will include current NPC Standing Committee member Tam Yiu-chung and professionals with a law background, Lee said.
