DAB lawmaker Holden Chow on Friday called on the government to set aside land for industries such as advanced manufacturing and advanced food processing when it develops Lung Kwu Tan in the New Territories.
A Development Bureau reclamation and redevelopment plan is set to provide 210 hectares of new land in the area for developing modern and advanced industries, with 145 hectares of this reclaimed land and the rest brownfield sites.
Chow, who represents New Territories North West in Legco, said he believes the advanced manufacturing and advanced food processing industries would benefit from plots in the area.
"Instead of designated premises, advanced manufacturing owners would also prefer fresh and newly created land, so that they could actually build their manufacturing base or factory on the land," he said.
"If there is a designated premises on food processing in Lung Kwu Tan, advanced food processing businesses could accommodate the use and instalment of automation systems and smart production lines," he added.
Chow also said he estimates that the development plan will lead to the creation of at least 50,000 jobs.
