DAB lawmaker Horace Cheung on Friday joined a list of people complaining that their names have been added to petitions opposing the government's extradition law plans without their permission.

Cheung said somebody had used his name to sign an online petition organised by his alma mater, Yau Tze Tin Memorial College.

He said the petition claims he is a lawyer at the college, although the year of graduation given does not match his.

Cheung said if the organiser of the petition doesn't remove the name soon, he could take legal action.

"I will post a message to the organiser of this campaign and I hope that he can rectify the list as soon as possible," the legislator said.

He added that he had received many complaints from people who have also found their name on petitions against the legislation which were launched recently by students, teachers and alumni from dozens of schools and universities in the city.

But Cheung said he believes many people are unwilling to speak out about the fake signatures because they don't want to get involved in a "political struggle."

Staff at two schools had already complained that their names had been added to petitions without them knowing, with one of the schools making a report to the police over the matter.
