  • Covid outbreak found at Sheung Wan restaurant

Health authorities on Friday reported a coronavirus cluster involving a restaurant in Sheung Wan in which at least 30 people have come down with the virus.

Officials said those infected include 29 customers who dined at Sky Cuisine between 6pm and 11pm on May 7, and one member of staff. The customers are aged between eight and 117.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection said everyone who visited the restaurant that night must get tested for Covid, adding that officials believe more than 200 diners and around 50 members of staff are affected.

She added that authorities have collected environmental samples from the restaurant and are investigating how the virus was transmitted.

“We’re still interviewing the patients and their family contacts. So far, we understand most of them were sitting on the third floor of that restaurant. And we’re still ascertaining the distribution of the cases, the tables, and the seating. We understand there are more than 10 tables involved so far,” she said.

Meanwhile, officials also found 22 new Covid cases after testing more than 1,600 residents during a lockdown of Sai Wan Estate in Kennedy Town. Sixteen of the patients live in West Terrace, four in East Terrace and two in Central Terrace.

Officials also reported two more infections from a Covid cluster at a snooker club in Hung Hom, taking the total number of cases there to six people. On Thursday, the authorities ordered more than 150 people who visited Sun Mong Snooker on Monday evening to get tested.

In all, the Centre for Health Protection on Friday reported 298 new Covid infections, including 21 imported cases.

Three more people infected with Covid have died, bringing the total death toll in the Omicron wave of infections to 9,146.
