  • Covid cases likely dipped because of typhoon: CHP

Hong Kong's daily Covid-19 caseload on Sunday dropped below 2,000 for the first time in five days, but officials said that was probably due to the typhoon.

The Centre for Health Protection reported 1,681 new local Covid cases and 147 imported infections. There were no new Covid-related deaths.

The centre's Albert Au said that because testing centres were closed during Typhoon Chaba on Saturday, patients confirmed through PCR tests were a couple of hundred fewer than in previous days.

Meanwhile, a cluster outbreak at a Kwun Tong hotpot restaurant expanded to 14 cases, after three more customers tested positive for the coronavirus.

Health officials took ten environmental samples from the restaurants and all of them returned negative.

Authorities said one of the patients had come down with Covid in March but may have been reinfected at the restaurant.
