A Hong Kong resident on Wednesday approached the High Court demanding that the Police Commissioner, Stephen Lo, apologise after a pastor said a police officer had told him to “ask your Jesus to come see me” during a protest outside Legco on June 12.

The applicant, who is seeking a judicial review, said the officer has “no unfettered discretion” to discriminate against or insult others on the basis of their religious belief.

He added that since Jesus Christ is not a “natural person” in the legal sense, the officer’s request to see him is apparently ridiculous, illogical and unreasonable.

He said he and fellow Christians felt offended and upset, and had thus become the “secondary victims” in the incident.

The applicant said the court should rule that the police had abused their power and what they did was unreasonable and illegal.
