Lee Wing-tat talks to RTHK's Candice Wong

Former Democratic Party chairman Lee Wing-tat on Wednesday claimed that Chinese Communist Party members have infiltrated key areas of society in Hong Kong, including the police and the Civil Service.

Reports quote Lee as saying in his memoir that around 200,000 party members have moved into Hong Kong through the one-way permit scheme, which allows 150 people to move to the city from the mainland every day.

Lee said the party sends many members over during and before events such as Legco elections or major protests to carry out work for Beijing.

The former lawmaker also hit back at former Chief Executive CY Leung who questioned the claims and accused Lee of spreading fear of the Communist Party.

Lee said he knows that Leung, as well as former Legco president Tsang Yok-sing are members of the party. "I will only be surprised if they are not," he said.

He told RTHK's Candice Wong that in his book, former Xinhua executive Xu Jiatun had clearly revealed there were 8,000 Communist Party members in Hong Kong by 1983.
