  • Coins thrown at judges during High Court drama

Police removed a woman from the High Court on Wednesday after she appeared to throw coins at judges during a hearing.

The coins, thrown from the public gallery, did not hit any of the three judges who were hearing an appeal related to the 2012 Lamma ferry disaster.

Guards then removed the middle-aged looking woman as the judges banned her from the room.

But she then burst into another courtroom, with the guards and a bunch of reporters in pursuit, startling those present at the relatively smaller hearing held by a single judge.

The woman began to speak, but the judge asked her to wait till he had finished dealing with the ongoing case.

When asked to speak later, the woman blurted out, incoherently in Cantonese, something about being told to pay thousands of dollars in legal expenses over a medical case. She started weeping and the judge then dismissed her.

Police had arrived at the scene by then and took her away in a van.

The High Court has been the scene of repeated drama in recent weeks, with two arrests made over alleged unlawful photography.
