Secretary for Security Chris Tang on Saturday said there's no connection between the seizure of an item linked to a national security case and the approaching June 4 anniversary.
Tang declined to go into further detail after national security police on Friday took away an exhibit related to a case of incitement to subversion from a location in Yuen Long.
It's understood that the exhibit is a sculpture known as the "Pillar of Shame", which was in storage after being removed from the campus of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2021.
"As it concerns a particular case that will be in court proceedings, I'm not in a good position to comment on an individual case," Tang told reporters after a radio programme.
"But I have to emphasise that police investigation, in any case, won't stop at a particular stage. If we consider that there is a value to seize anything, we'll do it in accordance with the law, and in accordance with the court procedures."
Responding to media queries, HKU confirmed that officers had taken away "a piece of evidence" from a facility in Yuen Long.
