Cathay Pacific's flight attendants' union will hold an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon, with staff who escaped the airline's mass layoffs now having to decide whether they will sign on to new contract terms.
Speaking on an RTHK programme, union chairwoman Zuki Wong said the company offered extra compensation to staff who will accept the new contracts by Wednesday.
She described the new contract terms as harsh as some staff will see their salaries slashed by up to half.
Wong also questioned why the cuts were permanent.
“The company always blames the pandemic for its loss,” she said. “As we expect the aviation industry and the economy to recover in 2024, we consider that the new contract terms should only last two to three years but not forever.”
Wong said union members would listen to legal advice and discuss the matter at the emergency meeting.
