Chief Executive Carrie Lam is to meet 150 members of the public on September 26 as she looks for a way out of the extradition bill crisis which has engulfed Hong Kong for the last three months.

The session will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai from 7pm to 9pm and those interested in attending the event can submit their applications from Thursday.

The applications can be submitted at Home Affairs Enquiry Centres or online till Monday.

A government note said 150 people will be invited to attend the event. If the number of people registering for the event is more than this, places will be allocated by drawing lots electronically.

Successful applicants will be notified by September 24

A government notice said the event is aimed at inviting "people from all walks of life to express their views to the government, so as to fathom the discontent in society and to look for solutions".

Lam had told reporters earlier that the dialogue platforms will be launched in three forms, including a version in which anyone can take part. The other forms include officials meeting randomly selected groups, as well as discussions with representatives from different sectors.

Lam has been under pressure to reach out to people to find a way to end the current impasse which started with opposition to the extradition law amendments her administration proposed.

But over the last three months, the campaign snowballed into a wide-ranging crisis which now covers demands for a probe into police actions and the implementation of universal suffrage.

The CE has borne the brunt of the attacks, with even pro-Beijing parties targeting her over the way she has handled the crisis.
