Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Wednesday added another credential to her long career as a government official – this time as a TV presenter for the public broadcaster RTHK.
The first two pre-recorded episodes of her programme, "Get to Know the Election Committee Subsectors", were aired on the broadcaster's TV channel 31 in the evening.
Used to answering questions from lawmakers and journalists, Lam was the one firing questions for a change.
Sitting on a couch, Lam interviewed Bunny Chan, chairman of the pro-establishment Kowloon Federation of Associations and Wong Yuk-shan, a local deputy of the National People's Congress and member of the Basic Law Committee, touching upon various issues relating to Beijing’s overhaul of the city’s electoral system.
To the disappointment of the English-speaking audience, however, Lam’s show is only in Cantonese and does not have English subtitles.
There will be 40 episodes in total, with two new 12-minute episodes aired each day.
Anyone who misses any episode could watch it on RTHK’s website.
In Lam’s Facebook post about the programmes, some left comments showing support and said they wanted Lam to be re-elected, while others urged her to hold direct dialogue with the people.
The Carrie Lam show will continue until May 17.
