Call Centre Association Chief Worried By Register

The executive director of the Call Centre Association says he fears some 20-thousand people working in the industry could be affected by the government's plan to set up a register to stop unwanted calls by telemarketers.
Rayland Chan told an RTHK programme that it would amount to "double monitoring" if warm-calls are also to be regulated, as they are already being governed by the Personal Data Privacy Ordinance.
He said he's disappointed that the administration did not separate its handling of cold-calls and warm-calls.
Mr Chan expressed the hope that there will be an expiry date on the register, so that there won't be fewer calls to make.
