Pro-Beijing lawmaker Paul Tse

Lawmakers across the political divide said on Monday they don't want to see the controversial extradition bill being tabled directly to the full Legislative Council - thus bypassing the bills committee.

The idea was proposed by former Legco President, Tsang Yok-sing, who said that's the only way to the break the current deadlock.

Both pro-Beijing lawmaker Paul Tse and the Civic Party's Alvin Yeung said it's not the time to make the unprecedented leap to get the bill to the full council, where officials won't be answering lawmakers' questions one by one.

Yeung said he doesn't want to see any more chaos at tomorrow's meeting, but Tse said he wants to form a new body to vet the bill.

It's been a month since the bill was first put to Legco, but rival lawmakers have been arguing as to whether they had elected a chair for the bills committee or not, resulting in a brawl on Saturday.
