Civic Party chairman Alan Leong has warned that if even just one white-collar offence is left in the government's proposals to amend the Fugitives Offenders Ordinance, businessmen in Hong Kong will still be at risk.
Leong called on the business sector to stand firm against the the government's extradition plan, despite the administration's move to pacify the sector by exempting certain types of commercial offences from the plan.
"Once this firewall is broken, it will be broken forever in preparation for its collapse. So don't yield," the former lawmaker said.
Leong said that even if one white-collar offence is left in plan, local businessmen will have no protection as any corporate crimes can be dressed up as that one white-collar offence under the extradition plan.
He also urged the public to join a planned protest this Sunday against the government's move.
