A 62-year-old bus driver has been sentenced to 45 months in jail and had his driving licence suspended for five years over a fatal traffic accident in Lam Tin last year.
Man Chun-pun earlier pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving causing death and another count of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
The Citybus was en route from Ma On Shan to Central in January last year when it rammed into concrete barriers in Lam Tin and flipped onto its side, killing one passenger and injuring 20 others.
The District Court had heard that the double-decker was travelling at a speed well over the limit of 70 kilometres per hour when the accident occurred.
Judge Timothy Harry Casewell slammed the defendant for not trying to slow down, and said a heavy penalty was needed because he had to bear responsibility for the fatal accident.
