The Democratic Party is urging the government to introduce laws to protect breastfeeding mothers from any kind of harassment.
The administration is planning to amend the Sex Discrimination Ordinance to cover breastfeeding women, but the party says the proposed changes are not good enough.
Legislator Helena Wong says a survey the party carried out recently also found that the public want stricter laws.
She said: "The existing anti-discrimination bill actually, I would say, a very handicapped legislation because it locates specific settings, say for example in employment settings, in the workplace, in schools, in the provision of service, things like that.
"So if we have discrimination that cannot fall into this specific category, this legislation cannot provide protection for us. So I think we need to have a comprehensive review of the entire sex discrimination ordinance."
