The chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Barnabas Fung, announced on Sunday that the opening hours of five polling stations will be extended by up to 22 minutes.

He said it took longer than expected to open four of them in the morning as voting began elsewhere for Legislative Councillors at 8.30am, while there was a problem with internet connection at the remaining one.

Separately, Fung said more than 22,000 Hong Kong residents living on the mainland were registered to vote at three border checkpoints, and that around 7,870 of them cast their ballots on Sunday morning.

A polling station was also set up at the Penny's Bay quarantine camp, but he said none of the 80 people signed up to vote there had done so on Sunday morning.

Fung also revealed that authorities had received 69 complaints related to the election.
