The police have urged people heading out onto the streets to celebrate Halloween this weekend not to use imitation firearms as props for their costumes.

The force also said on Friday that people should steer clear of sharp objects, offensive weapons or other illicit items.

"According to past experience, some members of the public would wear costumes or pose as TV or movie characters during Halloween and bring all kinds of theatrical props with them. In this regard, police urge members of the public not to carry any imitation firearm as props," a statement said.

It added that anyone who is in possession of an imitation firearm commits an offence and faces a maximum two years' jail sentence if convicted.

The force said that in anticipation of large number of people gathering in Lan Kwai Fong, road closures and crowd management arrangements are planned in the area from October 30 to November 1.

"Members of the public are advised to follow police instructions and observe order," the statement said.

The police said the Covid-19 pandemic is still evolving and as well as wearing masks outside, the public should stay away from crowded places and maintain proper social distancing.
