Anti-extradition Protesters Occupy Nathan Road

Hundreds of anti-extradition bill protesters moved to Mong Kok and occupied all six lanes of Nathan Road on Sunday evening after they took part in a demonstration in Tsim Sha Tsui in the afternoon.

Organisers say as many as 230,000 anti-extradition protesters marched to the West Kowloon Express Rail Terminus.

Most people dispersed peacefully after the march which finished shortly before 7 pm. But hundreds of participants were still gathering on Canton Road at 9 pm.

They then marched along Nathan Road to Mong Kok and spilled over to block traffic on all six lanes of the popular shopping street.

Hundreds of police officers, some dressed in riot gear, appeared and formed a cordon across the road.

Officers warned protesters to leave immediately, saying that they had broken the law, and force would be used to disperse them if necessary.

Earlier, a top police officer was surrounded and followed by protesters on Canton Road.

Rupert Dover has been the target of protesters after it was reported that he led the police operation to disperse crowds outside the government headquarters at an anti-extradition bill rally last month.

As protesters shouted and hurled abuse at Dover, dozens of police officers surrounded him and helped him move along Canton Road before he left the scene.
