  • Angry driver ploughs through Yuen Long blockade

Clashes broke out in Yuen Long on Monday when a driver tried to plough through a barricade set up by anti-extradition protesters.

It all began when protesters blocked a section of Castle Peak Road in Yuen Long at around 9am, and a car suddenly rammed into the barricade.

The driver got off the car and was subdued by protesters, who used plastic straps to tie his hands and legs. The protesters also smashed the windscreen and sprayed paint on the vehicle.

The man then got back into his car, managed to free himself and drove right past the barricade.

Police said it received a number of reports on the incident, and have classified the case as a hit-and-run traffic accident. But officers said no injured persons were found, and they haven’t located the vehicle involved either.

Elsewhere, protesters also tried to block main roads in a bid to disrupt traffic as a mass strike is being held across the city.

On Lung Cheung Road in Wong Tai Sin, a large group of people dressed in black and holding umbrellas set up roadblocks with water barriers and metal fences.

Protesters also tried to block the Kowloon side of the Cross Harbour Tunnel, but the barricades were soon removed by tunnel staff and police officers.
