The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau has said he hopes Thailand will continue to support Hong Kong's bid to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

In a Facebook post on Friday evening, his bureau said the minister met with Thailand's vice minister for commerce, Sansern Samalapa, during a trip to Cambodia.

The pair had exchanged views on economic and trade development, with Yau also telling his Thai counterpart to support the SAR in joining the RCEP as soon as possible, to deepen regional cooperation.

The secretary later joined a banquet in Siem Reap for those attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic ministers' meeting and enjoyed cultural performances there.

Yau is set to attend the ASEAN economic ministers consultation meeting on Saturday.
