Tuen Mun Man Found With Rat Hepatitis E

The Department of Health's Centre for Health Protection says it is looking into a human case of rat hepatitis E, involving a 71-year-old man from Tuen Mun.
The centre said the man, who has underlying illnesses, was found to have liver problems while being examined at Queen Mary Hospital. A blood sample was taken and the virus was detected in a laboratory test.
The man is now in a stable condition.
A follow-up investigation by the centre found that the man did not have any contact with rodents or rats. He also had no travel history during the incubation period.
Hong Kong has had sporadic cases of rat hepatitis in humans since the world's first such infection was confirmed here in 2018.
