The Hospital Authority announced on Sunday that four more elderly Covid-19 patients had died, taking the total number of deaths linked to the virus past 50.

More than 40 people with the disease have died in the last month, after the SAR reported only seven deaths in the first six months of the pandemic.

A 90-year-old woman who was being treated at Caritas Medical Centre died shortly after midnight. She'd been admitted to hospital on July 22 with pneumonia and abdominal pain.

Shortly before 4am, an 88-year old woman died at North District Hospital. She'd been treated for a fever and a cough since July 23.

A 78-year-old woman died at Tuen Mun Hospital at 5.30am. She'd been admitted on July 27 with fever and a cough.

An 81-year-old man who'd been admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on August 4 after being diagnosed with Covid-19 died shortly before 8am.

All of the patients had chronic illnesses.

There were no deaths of coronavirus patients reported on Saturday, the first day without any fatalities since mid-July.
