A 40-year-old pregnant woman died after falling from a height on Sunday evening, but her baby survived.

Police said they received a report at 7:40pm that two women of non-Chinese descent were found lying in the back alley of a building on Reclamation Street in Mong Kok.

Police went to the scene and the pregnant woman was sent to Kwong Wah Hospital where she delivered a baby boy. But she died shortly afterwards.

The other woman, a 27-year-old Hong Kong identity card holder, was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

Officers said they suspect the fall was an accident. Police said during a search they seized heroin and some other recreational drugs worth around HK$1,600 from a place on the Reclamation Street.

The case is being followed up by the Mong Kok police district's special duty team.
