Prosecutors have withdrawn a robbery charge against a Hong Kong resident who is wanted by Interpol over various alleged crimes, including links to terrorism.

Ramanjit Singh was originally accused of taking part in the robbery of two people in Tsim Sha Tsui in February, with a gang allegedly getting away with more than HK$32 million in Japanese yen.

A Kowloon City magistrate ordered the prosecution to pay costs for the abandoned case.

Police had put strict security in place whenever Indian-born Singh appeared in court, locking down roads and deploying counter-terrorism officers.

As well as his alleged links to a terrorist group, Singh is accused by Indian authorities of having helped organise a major prison break in Punjab. Interpol had issued a worldwide manhunt for him and India has requested that he be extradited.

A hearing over the extradition bid is expected to be heard by Eastern Court on August 23 and Singh's lawyers say their client intends to fight the move.

Singh remains in custody as he is also on trial at the District Court along with two others over the robbery of a businessman in Hung Hom in March 2017.
