Broadcasting Chief Denies Extension Irregularity

The Director of Broadcasting, Leung Ka-wing, said on Thursday that a decision to allow a deputy director to stay on at RTHK beyond retirement age does not go against regulations.

Lisa Liu will work till July – instead of retiring in April as scheduled.

Leung said it's not rare for civil servants to put off their retirement, and that the deputy director needs to stay on for "operational needs" and long-term planning.

The station's public and current affairs team will conduct a review of its programmes next month – but Leung said that this has nothing to do with his deputy staying on longer.
