People Power legislator Ray Chan on Monday blasted the Airport Authority and the MTR Corporation for reportedly refusing to put up a new Cathay Pacific advertisement because it shows two men holding hands.

Chan, who is the city's only openly gay lawmaker, described the ban as "ridiculous" and said he would be writing to the government to seek an official explanation.

The airline recently released a series of adverts with the slogan "Move Beyond" as part of a re-brand designed to promote diversity.

But the version showing two men walking barefoot along a beach, hand in hand, appears to have proved too controversial for some.

Neither the MTR Corporation nor the Airport Authority, however, has offered an explanation for the apparent bans.

"I don't see any problem with this advertisement that carries a message of diversity, tolerance and inclusion. These values are in line with our government's policy to eliminate any form of discrimination in society," Chan said.

"The MTR and the Airport Authority should not hide behind the agency. They should allow the advertisement to be shown."
