Smart Lamppost Rumour Clarified

The Government today said the smart lampposts will not employ technology used to count the number of people at a given location and do not carry any facial recognition function.

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer clarified that an image captured from a television news clip featured technology that is used to count the amount of people at a specific location.

The technology was showcased at the Smart Government Pavilion at the International ICT Expo in April and is not related to the Multi-functional Smart Lampposts pilot scheme.

It added this image might mislead viewers to believe the technology shown is one of the functions of smart lampposts.
