Ocean Park says it hopes to transform itself into a resort destination for families to enjoy landmark events with its first hotel slated to open in June.

During a media gathering on Thursday, the theme park's chief executive, Matthias Li, said he expects the project to give both visitor numbers and revenue a double-digit boost.

The park recorded a HK$234.4 million loss in the last financial year.

Li said they saw a 35 percent year-on-year increase in the number of visitors who weren't on package tours during the first six days of the Chinese New Year.

He said he hopes the launch of wedding packages and educational programmes will also attract more families to the park.
