  • Investment return of Exchange Fund at 3-year low

The Exchange Fund saw its investment return fall to a three-year low last year.

According to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the fund's investment return reached HK$170.5 billion in 2021, down almost 28 percent from the year before.

Investment in Hong Kong equities plunged into the red, recording a loss of HK$21 billion compared with a HK$4 billion gain in 2020.

The Monetary Authority's chief executive, Eddie Yue, said the investment outlook remains challenging.

He cited inflation, the pandemic and geopolitical tensions as the three main factors that would affect the world economy and financial markets.
