Hong Kong stocks tumbled more than 1 percent on Friday following losses on Wall Street, as investors keep an eye on China-US trade talks while also awaiting the release of US jobs data.

The Hang Seng Index fell 1.3 percent , to close at 29,926.

On the mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.3 percent, to 3,091, while the Shenzhen Composite Index lost 0.2 percent, to 1,789.

Most other Asian markets were negative. Sydney slipped 0.6 percent, Seoul shed more than 1 percent and Singapore was off 0.8 percent.

There were also losses in Manila and Jakarta. However, Wellington and Taipei edged up.

Tokyo was closed for a public holiday. (AFP)
