Mainland property developer Evergrande ordered a halt to trading in its shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Monday, pending the release of inside information.

"At the request of the Company, trading in the shares of the Company was halted at 9am on 3 January, 2022 pending the release by the Company of an announcement containing inside information," Evergrande said in a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The group is reported to have debts of US$300 billion. Evergrande shares closed at $1.59 on Friday.
