Edward Yau Promotes HK In Davos

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau met various political and business leaders on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos.

While updating them on the latest developments in Hong Kong, Mr Yau said the city’s institutional strengths remain intact despite the unprecedented challenges it faces and added that it is safe and secure for travellers.

Mr Yau met Secretary of Trade & Industry of the Philippines Ramon Lopez, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs & Investment of Indonesia Luhut Pandjaitan and Minister for Finance of Australia Mathias Cormann.

He stressed that Hong Kong is well-positioned to help overseas enterprises tap into the Mainland market and grasp Belt & Road Initiative opportunities, adding that he hopes there will be more exchanges and business collaboration between Hong Kong and the three countries.

Noting that the Hong Kong-Australia Free Trade Agreement & Investment Agreement entered into force last Friday, Mr Yau emphasised that the pacts mark a significant milestone in their already substantial bilateral ties in trade and investment.

The agreements deliver a guarantee to Australian businesses that Hong Kong's relatively open services and investment regime will continue, he added.

Mr Yau also discussed with Governor of the Bank of Thailand Veerathai Santiprabhob how the memorandum of understanding Hong Kong signed with Thailand last November can bring further economic opportunities and connectivity.

He then attended a dinner organised by the Credit Suisse Group for WEF guests and gave interviews to international media on Hong Kong's latest developments.
