  • Xinjiang accounts for majority of new Covid cases

Chinese health authorities said on Tuesday that they received reports of 36 new confirmed Covid-19 cases on the mainland the day before, including 30 locally-transmitted ones.

Of the local cases, 28 were reported in Xinjiang and two in Liaoning province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

Six new imported cases were also reported. Of the cases, four were reported in Guangdong province, and one in Shanghai and Sichuan Province each, the commission said.

No deaths related to the disease were reported on Monday.

The commission also said 17 patients were discharged from hospital on Monday after recovery.

As of Monday, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on the mainland stood at 84,464, including 800 patients who were still being treated, with 36 in severe condition.

Altogether, 79,030 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said. (Xinhua)
