President Xi Jinping has described socialism as the only "cure" to China, saying that the theory has helped transform a poor and undeveloped country into one that's respected across the globe.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the 200th birthday of revolutionary socialist Karl Marx in Beijing, President Xi said it is the right decision for the ruling Chinese Communist Party to adopt the Marxist philosophy in its constitution, as history has proven that China has become one of the most powerful countries in the world in just a few decades.
He said his party will continue to adopt socialism with Chinese characteristics as that is undoubtedly the best way forward for the country's development.
He added that the Marxist theory will never be out of date because it will continue to evolve with time.
