New Local Covid Cases Nearly Doubles On Mainland

Mainland authorities have reported 402 new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases, nearly doubling from the daily count of 233 a day earlier.

According to the National Health Commission, 165 of the latest infections were in Jilin.

Some infected university students and close contacts of infected individuals, having been told they would be moved to other locations for quarantine, waited on campus hours after the time they were previously notified, according to two students at Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University.

Mainland media reported later buses arrived at the university to pick up students who were close contacts of infected individuals.

Of the other infections on Wednesday, Shandong and Gansu each accounted for 66.

Guangdong reported 17 infections, of which 15 were in Shenzhen. (Additional reporting by Xinhua, Reuters)
