The current wave of Covid-19 infections on the mainland is nearing an end, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said in its weekly update.

The centre pointed out there was no significant rebound in cases during the Lunar New Year holiday.

And the number of severe Covid cases and deaths was also trending downward, the officials said in a report that was dated last week.

The China Daily newspaper also reported that the centre had said no new mutations have been identified. (Additional reporting by Reuters)
