Jilin has again accounted for the highest number of new local Covid-19 infections among all provinces.

The National Health Commission confirmed 1,656 new local cases and 2,177 additional local asymptomatic infections on the mainland in the past day, which are counted separately.

Of the 1,656 new locally transmitted cases, 1,191 came from Jilin.

Fujian was second at 158, followed by Guangdong and Shandong with 51 each.

The overall figure of 3,833 local infections is down slightly from 3,870 the day before.

Authorities on Saturday reported the first Covid-19 deaths on the mainland in more than a year. (Additional reporting by Xinhua)
